Guan Moye (i.e. Mo Yan – literally “don’t speak”) is an interesting Chinese novelist and short story writer. A nobel prize winner in 2012, Mo Yan’s works are predominantly social commentary. He tends to focus on the constancy of human greed and corruption, despite the influence of ideology. Some of his work has either been written and/or translated into English.
A writer should express criticism and indignation at the dark side of society and the ugliness of human nature, but we should not use one uniform expression.
