A little place, Cape Breton-by-the-sea
A tiny speck upon the Earth’s great face
But oh! The boundless wealth of loveliness
That God has crammed into this little place.

There are strange things done in the midnight sun
By the men who moil for gold;
The Arctic trails have their secret tales
That would make your blood run cold;
The Northern Lights have seen queer sights,
But the queerest they ever did see
Was that night on the marge of Lake Lebarge
I cremated Sam McGee.

The Cremation of Sam McGee is among the most famous of Robert W. Service‘s (1874–1958) poems. It concerns the cremation of a prospector who freezes to death near Lake Laberge (spelled “Lebarge” by Service), Yukon, Canada, as told by the man who cremates him.

Sorry seems to be the hardest word: Elton John

Lyrics (partial)

Sorry seems to be the hardest word

What I gotta do to make you love me
What I gotta do to make you care
What do I do when lightning strikes me
And I wake to find that you’re not there

What I gotta do to make you want me
What I gotta do to be heard
What do I say when it’s all over
Sorry seems to be the hardest word
(That’s right)

It’s sad
So sad
It’s a sad sad situation
And its getting more and more absurd
It’s sad so sad
Why can’t we talk it over
Always seems to me
That sorry seems to be the hardest word

Not even a Shadow

exist?

What seems like forever, together

Forewarned,  I am not worthy

Of your attention, nor affection

Like a dagger piercing my soul

I am forgotten, dismissed

A lifetime of  hope, gone awry

I am spent, broken

Life ebbs away, like water

Disappearing, like a fog

Never was, never will be

Not even a shadow

Cast upon my existence
